The Future of Palestinians A Year After the War: Double Standards in International Norms and the Stalemate of Democratic Transition
Omar Rahal & Amal Al-Faqih.
This Working Paper analyses the political, social, and legal challenges facing Palestine amidst the absence of just solutions and the continuation of Israeli occupation. Conducted in December 2024, it examines the effects of international double standards that favour Israel, the internal political divisions between Fatah and Hamas, and the stalled democratic process due to the absence of elections, all of which hinder Palestinians’ aspirations for freedom, justice, and political participation. The paper also addresses threats to the two-state solution posed by settlement expansion and changing realities on the ground, emphasising the role of international legal mechanisms and their accountability.
